Japan Times

Japan Times is an English language newspaper in Japan. Contrary to the Yomiuri Shimbun and Asahi Shimbun the Japan Times is independent and not tied to a Japanese media organisation.

Japan News

The Japan News is the largest English language newspaper in Japan, published by the same company as its biggest newspaper Yomiuri Shimbun.

NHK World

NHK World is a Japanese television channel. Their programs are in English - their focus is on showing Japan to the “outside world”. They have a program called Tokyo Eye which is about Japanese culture and the best places to visit in Tokyo. There are over 200 episodes of Tokyo Eye. Not every episode is super interesting but definitely check out the ones about talking to Japanese people and eating out in Japan. Most episodes consist of the charming host Chris Keppler sending his reporters out on the streets to report on Tokyo life, followed by a small studio discussion. Some of the episodes can be watched on YouTube - search for Tokyo Eye.

They also have a smartphone app called NHK Live.

Metropolis Magazine

Metropolis Magazine is one of the few English language magazines in Tokyo. The magazine is light reading, mostly focussing on listings of events, movies and classifieds.
